Data Quality Checks Overview

Maintaining high-quality data is essential for any organization, especially when it comes to managing critical information like nutritional data, meal credits, and inventory records. Data quality checks are an integral part of GDSN Connect ensuring that information is accurate, reliable, and actionable. Within this framework, warnings play a crucial role in identifying potential issues before they escalate into significant problems.

The Role of Warnings in Data Management

Warnings are predefined alerts that flag discrepancies or missing information in data sets. These warnings serve as early indicators, allowing users to address issues promptly, thus preventing inaccuracies from affecting decision-making processes. By incorporating warnings into data quality checks, GDSN Connect can implement proactive data management strategies that maintain the integrity of the data.

Why Warnings Matter

Effective warnings help maintain compliance with regulatory standards, streamline operations, and enhance data-driven decision-making. They enable teams to quickly identify and rectify issues, reducing the risk of errors that could lead to significant operational challenges. In an environment where accurate data is critical, warnings are a first line of defense in maintaining the reliability of information.

Reviewing Warnings

Warnings can be accessed through the Data Quality Checks tab on the menu on the left of the application. The warnings are grouped into four different sections:

  • Item Setup: Information about how the item is configured.
  • Menu Planning: Information useful for menu planning purposes. This only shows food items.
  • Inventory Setup: Information about how the item is set up for inventory and forecasting.
  • Procurement: Information about vendors and pricing.

Critical Warnings - Address These Warnings First!

Each warning may also be classified as "Critical", which means that it needs to be addressed before the item can be properly used.  Items with critical warnings can be found by selecting "Only Critical Warnings" from the filter on the upper left of the menu. Additionally, the red alert at the top of each tab will appear if there are any items with critical warnings in that section.

For more details on specific warnings and how to correct them, please visit the Data Quality Checks > Warning in our support documentation.

Customizing the Table Columns

To investigate the issues for an item, it may sometimes may be helpful to change which columns are shown in one of the tables.  To do this, you can click on the "Select Columns " at the top of right of the table. This will show the additional columns that can be displayed.

NOTE: At this time, the columns will reset every time the page refreshes.
